Tata Motors on Thursday launched a new sub-brand 'TAMO' (short for Tata Motors), which will provide innovative mobility solutions according to the company. It said that the new sub-brand is an incubating center of innovation the future of mobility in India. This means that the sub-brand will concentrate on coming up with new performance and sports cars.

The company said that Tamo will be a fast-paced vertical working in an incubator environment and will operate on low volume, low investment and faster to market products.

“While Tata Motors is about volume TAMO will be about faster product release and proof of concept. TAMO will not only be cost efficient but feature packed,” says Guenter Butscheck, MD of Tata Motors.

TAMO has been conceived on similar lines as the 'N' wing at Hyundai and the 'Mugen' division of Honda Cars.

According to an International Business Times report, the new sub-brand plans to launch a new two-seater and mid-engined sports car called Futuro. This model will be unveiled as a concept car at the 2017 Geneva motor show the following month.

It is expected that Tamo may sell only about 250 units of the Futuro. The car is expected to be priced at around Rs 25 lakh and could go on sale by mid-2018, the report added.

While details of the Futuro are not out, there are reports that suggest it will be powered by a turbocharged 1.2 Revotron engine which will give out a power of 180hp.
