Indian multinational automotive company, Tata Motors, on Tuesday announced the appointment of N Chandrasekaran as chairman in a BSE filing.

"...the Board of Directors have today appointed Mr Natarajan Chandrasekaran as Additional Director and Chairman of the Board with immediate effect," the company said.

The announcement comes days after Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, named Chandrasekaran as Executive Chairman and said that he will take charge from February 21.

The 53 year old computer engineer, Chandrasekaran was the CEO of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and had initially joined the company back in 1987.

Tata Group had ousted its previous Chairman Cyrus Mistry from the boards of many companies including Tata Motors.

Shares of Tata Motors closed down 0.63% to Rs 523.25 per share on BSE Sensex.
