"The above announcement is issued voluntarily to prevent any speculation concerning the matter," Tata Consumer Products added.

Earlier, Tata Consumer Products had said it was in discussions with Bisleri International to acquire a majority stake in the packaged water company.

A potential deal with Bisleri would have enabled the Tata group to expand its portfolio of bottled water brands in India.

Tata Consumer Products owns packaged water brands Himalayan Natural Mineral Water and Tata Water Plus. The other popular brands of Tata Consumer — a consumer products company — include Tata Salt, Tata Tea, Tata Sampann and Tetley.
