The country’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has appealed to its staff to reconsider their decision on the proposed two-day strike on coming Thursday and Friday in the interest of customers, investors and the Bank.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, the SBI said: “We request our staff members to reconsider their decision and refrain from participating in the proposed strike on 16th and 17th December 2021 in the interest of our customers, investors and the Bank.”

In the post, the bank further cited the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic situation and appealed to call off the strike.

“Furthermore, considering the ongoing pandemic situation, resorting to a strike will cause great inconvenience to the stakeholders,” said the post.

The United Forum of Bank Unions, an umbrella body of nine unions, has called a two-day nationwide strike on December 16 and 17, in protest against the government's plan to privatise public sector banks.
