Reliance Jio has become the latest telecom operator to announce a tariff hike in India. The Mukesh Ambani-owned company has said that it will bring new plans from December 6 which will be priced up to 10 per cent more than the current plans.

The Mukesh Ambani-owned company has said that it will bring new plans from December 6 which will be priced up to 10 per cent more than the current plans. In a statement released on Sunday, Jio said that it will be introducing new All-In-One plans with unlimited voice and data. It added that these plans will be priced up to 40 per cent higher, have fair usage policy for calls to other mobile networks and will be effective from December 6, 2019.
This means that not only will the new plans cost users more, they will also have to 6 paise per second charge for making calls to networks other than Jio. The charge was recently introduced by the telecom operator. "As a technology disruptor and force multiplier, Jio acutely understands the transformative role telecommunications and digital services are playing for the Indian economy and society today," the statement read.
However, Jio claims that the customers will get more benefits in the new plans. It said that the Jio customers will be given up to 300 per cent more benefits but did not mention what they will be. It said that while the company is committed to the interest of consumers, it will continue to take necessary steps to help sustain the Indian telecommunications industry.

"While remaining committed to the ultimate interest of the consumer, Jio will take all necessary steps to help sustain the Indian telecommunications industry. Jio will continue to work with the Government on the consultation process for revision of telecom tariffs and looks forward to participation from all other stakeholders," the statement added.
Earlier on Sunday, Jio's closest competitor Bharti Airtel had announced new plans under which call and data charges will be dearer for its pre-paid customers by up to 42 per cent from 3 December. Vodafone Idea has also announced its plans to raise mobile rates in the country.
