With its ‘record-breaking’ move of garnering 16 million customers in less than a month, Reliance Jio (RJio) is now amongst the top 10 telecom operators in India.

The new entrant has gained speed in its 26 days of operations, placing it ninth in the total ranking of the telecom operators in India.

As per the data published by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on October 7, the top telecom companies with highest number of subscriptions in the wireless segment were; Bharti Airtel with approximately 256.79 million subscribers. Followed by Vodafone (~199.70 million) and Idea (~176.43 million).

RJio came in after Telenor – with 53.15 million subscribers leaving behind Sistema, MTNL and Quadrant.

The company said that it has beaten other startups and telecom operators around the world including the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype.

Reliance Industries’ Jio attributed its speedy success to its ‘Aadhar-based’ paper-less Jio SIM activation across 3,100 countries which enables the SIM activation process within minutes.
