Paytm has also acquired Alibaba-owned ticketing platform TicketNew earlier this year along with a majority stake in Insider.in. It has also been the exclusive ticketing partner for Race 3 and Sanju.

"We’ve identified the entertainment category as one of our key focus areas," Madhur Deora, chief financial officer, and senior vice-president, Paytm told Livemint. He also added, “the biggest form of entertainment is movies, but out of the 1.5 billion tickets sold every year in India, only 10% are bought online."

Apart from tie-ups with cinema chains, the digital payment platform has also come up with cash back and cancellation protection offers, in order to attract larger audiences. It also shares information on how the theatres can improve their occupancy along with what kind of audience a particular theatre appeal to.

According to the report, Paytm is also the ticketing partner with Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab IPL teams along with Delhi and Goa teams of the Indian Super League this year. It has also signed up for the sale of IPL merchandise through Paytm Mall. Such strategic partnerships, industry analysts say, bring 10-40% of the sales for Paytm, that acts as a distributor.
