As the fight against the spread of Covid-19 continues in India, Google Pay added new options in the product to make lives easier for users as they observe social distancing. The new feature added in Google Pay will enable users to see which stores, providing essential goods, are open in the locality they are living in. This facility has been made available in 35 cities across India.

Google Pay informed about the introduction of new feature in a statement and said, "Nearby Stores, a Spot launched on Google Pay last month, helps users see which stores, providing essential goods, are open in their vicinity. Originally rolled in a few cities across India, this Spot is now available in 35 cities across the country. Additionally, merchant establishments can now indicate their business hours, whether social distancing measures are in place at the store and the essential goods presently in stock. Additionally, users in Mumbai can also see if the store is present in a containment zone."

Users across the country can also book their cooking gas cylinders from HP Gas, Bharat Petroleum or Indane, and pay digitally via the Google Pay app. All three service providers are now live for all users of Google Pay.

Google Pay helps millions of users across India pay digitally across the spectrum of payment needs such as mobile recharge bill payments, peer to peer payments and peer to merchant payments. In aid of the Covid-19 efforts, Google Pay has also launched a Coronavirus Spot which provides users the latest, official safety guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and also links to a variety of charities accepting donations to support relief work.

The list of 35 cities where the Google Pay feature has been introduced includes Varanasi, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Prayag Raj, Kanpur, Noida and Greater Noida in UP, Patna in Bihar, Ludhiana, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar in Punjab and Mumbai, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, Pimpri-Chinchwad in Maharashtra.
