Maruti Suzuki India posted a 16.2% rise in domestic car sales during the month of April. Its domestic sales rose to 1,17,045 units in April 2016 from 1,00,709 units in the same period last year.

The company said that its total passenger car sales, however, rose by mere 2.7% as mini-segment cars like Alto and WagonR saw a decline of 9.9%. The company sold only 31,906 units in April 2016 in comparison to 35,403 units in April 2015.

However, the company saw a robust growth in utility vehicle (UV) segment which posted a 260.4% growth. This was on the back of newly launched model Brezza, apart from others such as Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara. Sales in the UV segment rose to 16,044 units during the month from 4,452 units in the same month last year.

Exports of the company, however, dropped by 13.7% as it managed to sell 9,524 units in April 2016 from 11,039 units in April 2015.

The van segment too saw sales rise by 20.3% to 14,520 units from 12.069 units last year.
