In a horrific turn of events, a Spicejet technician died in an accident that took place at the Kolkata Airport on Wednesday. The technician was carrying out maintenance on the landing gear of the Bombardier Q400 plane when the landing door accidentally closed and he crushed there, according to an official at Kolkata airport.

Rohit Bhushan Pandey, a trainee technician, died at 1.45 a.m., when he accidentally got stuck and the landing gear door closed on him. He died almost on the spot, as per reports. A complaint of 'unnatural death' has been filed at the Kolkata Airport police station, according to a senior police officer and there will be an inquiry into the incident by Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

According to SpiceJet, spokesperson, Pandey was working in the right hand main landing gear wheel well area of the aircraft, which was parked in bay no. 32 at the time of accident. The spokesperson said that the main landing gear hydraulic door closed and he got stuck in between the hydraulic door flaps. The doors had to be broken to rescue Pandey but he was declared dead.

Earlier, DGCA on Tuesday also issued a set of safety directions to airlines, to avoid the incidents of planes overshooting runways while operating in the present monsoon conditions. In its circular, the DGCA said, "Aircraft operations during monsoon season poses challenges, which of late have resulted in a number of occurrences."
