Pankaj Sahani said that Medanta is growing at 20 per cent every year from 2020 to 2022, and added: “We have grown from 2020 to 2022 at 20 per cent every year and even in the future our growth will continue.”

Sahani stated that people have realised the importance of quality healthcare. “There are reasons behind this growth and one of them is that India has started focusing on the healthcare whether it be due to covid or not. People have started realising that there is a difference between general treatment and good quality treatment. They have understood the difference between a general doctor and a super specialist doctor. Thus, people have chosen Medanta. This is one of the reasons for our growth and increase in volume, Sahani said.

Regarding other reasons for Medanta's growth, Sahani said, “Second thing is, today we have around 2,500 beds and that number will increase to 3,500. Our new hospital which is operating in Lucknow is doing well. We have seen a robust growth in the first year itself, the Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) was break-even, in FY2022 its performance was around 28 per cent.”

He also said that international patients have increased post covid and will keep on increasing, with the help of Heal in India initiative.

Speaking on the expansion plans Sahani said, “This year we will open a hospital in Patna with 650 beds and we are already getting a good response. We are also building a 550 bed hospital in Noida.”

Talking about the occupancy, renowned cardiologist Dr Naresh Trehan said, “We have started updating the procedures so that the patients do not have to wait overnight. One benefit is that they reach home by evening and they don’t have to spend the night at the hospital. Secondly, our activities are high-end with complicated procedures, thus our occupancy in the morning is 20 per cent high, and at night it is 60-65 per cent. And it will increase by 5-7 per cent in coming days as international patients will add on.”

Global Health, which is the operator of Medanta, got listed on both the exchanges on November 16 at Rs 401 which was a 19 per cent premium listing. The share was subscribed 9.6 times.
