Bharti Airtel on Wednesday reported a nearly 31% drop in its consolidated net profit for the first quarter (Q1) ended June 30, 2016.

The company's net profit for the April-June quarter of the fiscal year 2016-17 (FY17) declined 30.81% to Rs 1,462 crore against Rs 2,113.2 crore in the April-June quarter of the fiscal year 2015-16 (FY16), Bharti Airtel said in a filing to the BSE on Wednesday.

Bharti Airtel's total income from operations during Q1 FY17 rose 7.99% to Rs 25,572.9 crore compared to Rs 23,680.8 crore in Q1 FY16, the statement said.

Its total expenses during the quarter under review were up 7.96% at Rs 21,038.6 crore against Rs 19,486.9 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal. 

Bharti Airtel's shares on Wednesday closed up 0.80% or Rs 2.95 at Rs 372.55 on the BSE.
