Amazon India recently concluded its Great Indian sale which commenced on the same day as Flipkart’s Big Freedom sale – August 9 and ended on August 12.

The e-commerce giant labelled it as ‘the biggest sale for the year,’ in a release on Monday. “Day 1 of Great Indian sale is the biggest day for Amazon.in in 2017, at the back of rapid momentum of 88% growth for Q2.”

“We are humbled by the response from customers to our latest Great Indian Sale, making it our biggest shopping event of 2017,” said Manish Tiwary, Vice President - Category Management, Amazon India.

Amazon India’s Apple sales jumped 40 times in comparison to regular days and its TV and large appliances segment grew 10 times, the company said.

The company was offering deals on smartphones like Apple iPhone 6, and iPhone 7, Samsung Galaxy On5 Pro, LG Q6, OnePlus 5 and Motorola Moto G5 Plus.

“Apple saw 40X growth; Samsung (13X), Honor (10X), Moto & Lenovo (9X), BlackBerry (10X) and OnePlus (6X) Redmi 4A sold out uner 1 minute,” Amazon said.

Further its reach in small towns also grew during the sale.

“Amazon.in sees 2X growth in customers from Tier 2, 3 and below geographies. Sees new customers from areas like Tinsukia, Banka, Purnia and Karbi Anglong,” the company added.

Here are five highlights of the sale:

1. TVs & Large Appliances grow 10X

"Key exclusive brands Sanyo and BPL grew by over 25X. TCL, an Amazon Exclusive – introduced 3 new models under their UHD (4K) Android TV range with a Buy One TV Get One TV offers for Prime members. The top model of the range (65” 4K TV worth INR 1.1 Lakh) sold out by Day 2. ACs grew by 4X, Refrigerators grew by 7X and Washing machines grew by 8X; Bosch, Haier, BPL & LG were category bestsellers," Amazon said.

2. Fashion & Accessories

Most sold category with upwards of 5X growth, the company said. "Men’s Shoes and Men’s Apparel grew 4X, Kids Apparel (3X), Luggage(3X), Handbags(3X), Kids Shoes (3X) and Women’s Shoes(3X)."

3. Amazon Pay, exchange schemes & more

The company saw a 20 X increase in top ups. And No-cost EMI programs grew 5X. The number of orders placed using exchange grew nearly 15X. Exchange schemes and EMI, the company said, were a hit with customers with a 2.5X increase in number of exchange orders and 10X increase in No cost EMI orders in Large Appliances.

4. Amazon Prime

“Prime continues to be the top selling product. Prime members gave a resounding thumbs up to the exclusive deals. The buy one, get one TV, TCL’s top model 65” 4K TV worth Rs 1.1 lakh was one of the top selling TVs in the sale,” the company said.

5. Other highlights

Amazon said its sale of baby products, home appliances, musical instruments and storage devices also witnessed growth up to five times the sale on normal days.
