Tesla in India: As World's leading electric car maker, Tesla has made its entry in India and registered itself as a company in Karnataka's Bengaluru, Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi said. The Market Guru said that the impact of Elon Musk led Tesla will be to ensure much more competition in this sector in India, especially in electric vehicle (EV) segment.

Anil Singhvi, said: "Indian electric vehicle (EV) companies need to be ready for the competition from Tesla India. They need to see how early they can rollout their electric vehicles before the official launch of the Tesla in India. Few important points to note are, how Tesla will operate in India, cost effectiveness and production time."

There is no doubt that Tesla will bring good competition in Indian market, for obvious reasons, as Tesla is the world's leading electric car maker at present. For now, it is too early to predict something big, Singhvi further added.

Anil Singhvi also said: "I'm looking forward to know is which Indian companies will be benefited from Tesla's entrance in India. How this company will distribute its business in India."

Meanwhile, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited has been incorporated and the registered address is in Lavelle Road, Bengaluru (Karnataka), the news agency IANS reported.

"Tesla registered its Indian subsidiary with the Registrar of Companies (RoC) in Bengaluru on January 8, with Rs 15 lakh authorized capital and Rs 1 lakh paid-up capital. Tesla India Motors and Energy Ltd has been opened in the city centre, with Vibhav Taneja, Venkatrangam Sreeram and David Jon Feinstein as its directors," said the company in its filing with the RoC.

Taneja is Tesla's Chief Accounting Officer while Feinstein is the Senior Director, Global Trade and New Markets, at Tesla. Sreeram is also a director in Xenon Automotive India Ltd since April 2014 and Clearquote Technologies India Ltd since August 2020.

Tesla is also in touch with other state governments like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to start its India operations.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had said last month that Tesla will begin operations with sales in early 2021 and then "maybe" look at assembling and manufacturing vehicles in the country.
