Sales have been humming at Maruti Suzuki due to a technology that it rolled out, which subsequently led India to fall in love with the carmaker all over again. Maruti has achieved yet another milestone by crossing the mark of 3-lakh cumulative sale of cars with its Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology. The auto major now aims at an even greater achievement in the current fiscal year. Yes, AGS is becoming increasingly popular among the customers and Maruti Suzuki is more than willing to spread the love. Said RS Kalsi, Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki India, “The revolutionary Auto Gear Shift technology is an innovation that offers comfort and ease of driving to the customers with no compromise on fuel efficiency."

The contribution of cars with AGS variant to the company’s total sales has tripled since its introduction in 2014. At present, Maruti Suzuki offers AGS in seven models in its range, including bestsellers like Alto K10, WagonR, Celerio, Swift, Ignis and Dzire. In May 2018, Vitara Brezza became the latest offering with AGS technology. The benefit that  AGS tech offers is the convenience of an automatic transmission with no compromise on fuel efficiency. It also is affordable and easy to maintain.

Kalsi added, "Crossing 3-lakh retail sales mark within five years of its introduction is a reflection of the success and consent of the customers for the two-pedal technology. With enhanced awareness and deeper penetration, we aim to sell over 200,000 cars with AGS in 2018-19,” he added.

Notably,AGS technology was first introduced with Maruti Suzuki Celerio in 2014 and currently, 43% of this car's sales are of AGS variant. Retail sales of AGS variants adds up to 28% for Ignis and 17% for Dzire.
