India’s largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited posted an almost 31 per cent growth in September 2020 over the corresponding period during the previous year, it said in a media release. The company sold 160,442 units in September.

It said the current performance was in the context of lower base of September 2019. 

The total sales made by Maruti include domestic sales at 150,040 units and 2,568 units for other OEMs.  In addition, the Company exported 7,834 units in September 2020, the release said. 

Meanwhile,the sales during the July-September quarter (Q2 of FY 2020-21) grew by over 16 per cent during the same period in the previous year.      

On the half yearly basis, the H1 sales stood at 469,729 units, which was a decline of over 36 per cent as against H1 of FY 2019-20, the release said. Company’s sales performance in the first half has to be seen in conjunction with COVID-19 related disruptions, the release further said.

  • At 111,459 units sold, the mini and compact segment saw a growth of 47 per cent in September 2020 against September 2019. However the April-September 2020 period saw a 35 per cent decline at 307,322 as against FY20. The mini segment cars include Alto and S Presso while the compact segment includes WagonR, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire, Tour S. 
  • In Utility vehicles segment September 2020 sales were up 10 per cent over 2019 period while April-September period sales were down by 38 per cent. This segment includes Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, XL6. 
  • The mid-size Ciaz was down by over 10 per cent in September 2020 over 2019 while sales in HI FY21 were down by over 66 per cent over the corresponding period in FY20.

Light Commercial vehicle segment was up 4 per cent in September 2020 against 2019 period. Meanwhile H1 FY21 sales were down by 34 per cent against the same period in FY20.
