Maruti Suzuki reported an increase of 14.5 per cent in total domestic sales on a year-on-year basis to 146,596 vehicles in May on Thursday.

These include passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles. Total sales of the country's largest car manufacturer were 178,083 units, as against 161,413 vehicles a year ago, which includes passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles, original equipment manufacturers, and export sales.

A total of 143,708 domestic passenger vehicle sales were reported, up from 124,474 last year.

It saw a significant rise of 64.85 per cent in the utility vehicle segment compared to last year. The segment includes the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, S-Cross, and XL6 models of the company.

There was a decline of 29.71 per cent in its mini-segment category, which includes Alto and S-Presso.

The total export sales for the company had fallen by 2.62 per cent from 27,191 units last year to 26,477 this year for the same period.
