Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), leader in passenger vehicles, today announced a 26 percent rise in sales. The carmaker sold 1,72,512 units in May 2018, against 1,36,962 units in the period a year ago. Maruti Suzuki India's domestic sales were up 24.9 per cent at 1,63,200 units in May 2018, against 1,30,676 units in the same month last year, the company said said in a statement. However, the company's mini segment cars, including Alto and WagonR, witnessed a 3.1 per cent decline. In May 2018, its in this segment declined to 37,864 units from 39,089 units in May 2017.

Compact car segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Dzire and Baleno logged sales of 77,263 units in May 2018, which was a 50.8 per cent jump from the previous year's sales figure of 51,234 units. The company sold 4,024 units of mid-sized Sedan Ciaz during the month, a 14.8 per cent fall. Utility vehicles sales increased by 13.4 percent to 25,629 units in May, from 22,608 units in the same month of 2017. Ertiga, S-Cross and compact SUV Vitara Brezza come in this segment.

Omni and Eeco sales went up by 32.7 percent to 16,717 units in May against 12,593 units in the same month of last year. Exports in May this year were up 48.1 per cent to 9,312 units. LCV Super Carry sales too spiked by 297.9 percent to 1,703 units in May against with 428 units in the same month last year.
