Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, on Friday reported production of 1,44,912 passenger vehicles in November, a decline of 4.2 per cent compared with the corresponding period a year ago.

While the company's production more than halved to 8,425 units in the mini segment, which comprises the auto maker's Alto and S-Presso cars, it fell 11.1 per cent to 79,700 units in the compact segment, according to a regulatory filing. 

Maruti Suzuki India's compact segment includes the Baleno, Celerio, Swift, WagonR and Dzire cars.

The auto major's production in the mid-size segment, which comprises the Ciaz sedan, decreased 69.9 per cent to 981 units.

In the utility vehicle (UV) category, which includes the Brezza, the Ertiga, the Fronx and the Jimny, on the other hand, the company saw a 55.3 per cent jump in production to 45,483 units. 

The company also registered an increase in its production of vans, with 10,323 units of the Eeco produced in November 2023 as against 7,210 units a year ago. 

The production of light commercial vehicles more than doubled to 2,851 units in November from 1,460 a year ago. 

Earlier on Friday, Maruti Suzuki India reported sales of 1,34,158 passenger vehicles in the domestic market last month, marking an increase of 1.3 per cent compared with the year-ago period.
