Auto Sales May 2022: Top Indian automobile companies declared their May auto sales numbers. Among them were Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland and MG Motor who reported an Year-on Year (YoY) rise in May sales numbers. Here are key highlights of the sales.

Tata Motors sales May 2022 surge nearly three folds to 76,210 units in May

Tata Motors on Wednesday said its total sales jumped nearly three folds in May to 76,210 units compared to 26,661 units in COVID-hit May 2021.

The company's domestic sales increased three folds to 74,755 units from 24,552 units in May 2021, Tata Motors said in a statement.

Total passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers more than doubled to 43,341 units as against 15,181 units in the year-ago month.

Similarly, domestic commercial vehicle sales surged to 31,414 units last month against 9,371 units in the same period last year.

This is the company's highest ever monthly sales since inception PV and EV domestic combined - led by robust dispatch of Nexon, Harrier and Safari.

The automajor also reported the highest ever dispatches of electric vehicles last month at 3,454 units, up from 476 units in the same period last year.

Ashok Leyland May sales 2022 jump four-fold 

Hinduja flagship firm Ashok Leyland on Wednesday reported a four-fold jump in total commercial vehicle sales at 13,273 units in May.

The company had sold 3,199 units in the COVID-hit May last year, Ashok Leyland said in a regulatory filing.

Domestic sales stood at 12,458 units, as against 2,738 units in May 2021, it added.

Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales last month stood at 7,268 units, as compared to 1,513 units in the year-ago month.

Sales of light commercial vehicles in the domestic market stood at 5,190 units in May, as against 1,225 units in May 2021, the company said. 

Skoda Auto sales jump over six folds to 4,604 units in May 2022 vs 716 units in May 2021

Skoda Auto India on Wednesday reported an over six-fold increase in sales at 4,604 units in May.

The company had sold 716 units in the COVID-hit May last year, Skoda Auto India said in a statement.

It is heartening for us at Skoda that despite challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage, we are maintaining momentum with sales," Skoda Auto India Brand Director Zac Hollis noted.

The company's innovative efforts to ensure customers are not put through long waiting periods and take delivery of cars faster than wait times prevailing in the industry has been a key factor in automaker's consistency, he added.

The Slavia and the Kushaq contributed to record sales for the company last month, the automaker said.

MG Motor sales in retail segment surges two-fold to 4,008 units in May 2022 vs  1,016 units in May 2021 

MG Motor India on Wednesday reported a two-fold increase in its retail sales at 4,008 units in May.

The company had sold 1,016 units in the same month last year, MG Motor India said in a statement.

The automaker had sold 2,008 units in April, 2022.

This growth demonstrates improvement in chip availability, and the carmaker hopes the situation to improve further in the subsequent months, MG Motor India stated.

Demand remains strong as the company maintains a healthy booking pace and experiences growth momentum although the production remains impacted due to the global COVID-19 lockdown, it added.

The brand is closely monitoring the situation caused by the global COVID lockdowns and is aligning its efforts to address the same, it noted.
