Maruti Suzuki is going to introduce an all-new Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) soon. The new model is going to be known as 'Invicto', the name apparently changing from the previously speculated ‘Engage’, reported AutoCar. The vehicle, expected to be launched on July 5, has been making waves even before its launch. Manufactured and supplied by Toyota, Invicto is based on the Toyota Innova Hycross and will be Maruti's new flagship model, holding the top position in the carmaker's line-up.

To set it apart from its Toyota counterpart, the Maruti Invicto sports brand-specific styling tweaks. This includes a new front bumper and grille, new headlamps and tail-lamp inserts, and a unique alloy wheel design. Minor tweaks to the upholstery and features list are expected on the inside. Spy images and leaked design patents reveal unique grille styling with chrome accents and redesigned LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The MPV is expected to have a skid plate-like front bumper appearance, adding an aggressive touch to its exterior styling.

Maruti had previously mentioned that the Invicto will be a low volume product for the brand, meant to showcase “carbon-friendly hybrid tech”. There is much curiosity about how Toyota will allocate units for Maruti since both the Innova Hycross and the Maruti Invicto will be built on the same manufacturing line. To clear the order backlog, Toyota has recently added a third shift at its facility.

In terms of powertrain and fuel efficiency, Maruti Suzuki will offer the same options on the Invicto as Toyota does with the Hycross. The high-end variants will come equipped with a 183hp, 2.0-litre, hybrid powertrain which should offer Innova Hycross levels of fuel economy – around 13-16 kmpl in real-world conditions. Maruti is also expected to offer the 173hp, 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox. Just like the Innova Hycross, the Invicto is expected to have the same seven- and eight-seater configurations.

The new MPV will likely be available for sale through Maruti's Nexa dealerships by late July. The Maruti Engage is likely to be priced between Rs. 25-30 lakh (ex-showroom) and is expected to compete with models like the Toyota Innova Hycross, Kia Carens, Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus.
