Turmeric prices were higher by Rs 34 to Rs 6,640 per quintal in futures trade Tuesday after operators built up fresh positions at existing levels driven by a firm trend at physical markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, turmeric for the most-active, delivery in the current month was trading higher by Rs 34 or 0.51 per cent to Rs 6,640 per quintal with an open interest of 12,710 lots.

The delivery in December month contracts too rose by Rs 28 or 0.42 per cent to Rs 6,620 per quintal having an open interest of 1,665 lots.

Marketmen said the rise in turmeric prices in futures trade was mostly due to building of positions by participants, supported by a firm trend at the spot markets.
