The civil supplies department of the Telangana government has set a target of purchasing 27 lakh metric tons (MT) of paddy initially for this kharif season.

A state government release said 2,800 purchase centres would be established for the purpose across the state.

The paddy procurement for the kharif season begins next month and Commissioner of Civil Supplies CV Anand has asked officials to make arrangements accordingly for the benefit of farmers, it said.

"This year, the minimum support price has been increased from Rs 1,470 to Rs 1,550 for common type (of paddy) and Rs 1,510 to Rs 1,590 for `A' grade (variety), ... the release added.
