Sugar prices spurted by Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following brisk buying by stockists and bulk consumers ahead of festive season coupled with halt in supplies from mills.

Marketmen said increased offtake by stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink, ice-cream and sweet makers, supported pause in supplies from mills, mainly led to the surge in sweetener prices.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices were higher by Rs 50 each to settle the day at Rs 3,980-4,100 and Rs 3,970-4,090 per quintal.

Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 also traded higher by a similar of Rs 50 each to Rs 3,620-3,800 and Rs 3,610-3,790 per quintal.

In the millgate section, sugar Budhana, Thanabhavan, Kinnoni, Asmoli, Dhanora, Dorala, Khatuli, Chandpur and Shamli were all up by Rs 50 each to Rs 3,765, Rs 3,760, Rs 3,800, Rs 3,770, Rs 3,760, Rs 3,770, Rs 3,800, Rs 3,710 and Rs 3,730 per quintal respectively.

Following are today's quotations (in Rs per quintal) Sugar retail markets - Rs 39.00-43.00 per kg.

Sugar ready: M-30 Rs 3,980-4,100, S-30 Rs 3,970-4,090.

Mill delivery: M-30 Rs 3,620-3,800, S-30 Rs 3,610-3,790.
