NSE Nifty today closed above the 11,300 mark propelled by gains in PSU bank, energy, pharma, bank, metal, infra, metal and auto sectors ahead of the RBI policy decision this week.

The Nifty 50 index rose by 41.20 points, or 0.37 percent, to end at 11,319.55, a record closing high. The Nifty rose 49.75 pts, or 0.44 per cent at the day's high of 11,328.10 in late trade, its record high level. The index fell 16.90 points, or 0.15 pct at the day's low of 11,261.45 in mid-morning trade.

Nifty witnessed an intra day movement of about 66.65 points.

Sector-wise, the PSU bank rose 4.30 per cent followed by energy 1.48 per cent, pharma 0.85 per cent, bank 0.75 percent, private bank 0.76 per cent, metal 0.69 per cent, infra 0.51 per cent, auto 0.46 per cent, financial service 0.41 per cent, media 0.43 per cent, FMCG 0.28 per cent and realty 0.19 per cent.

While, IT eased by 0.67 per cent.

Major index gainers were Bharti Airtel, ICICI bank, SBIN, Axis Bank,UltraTech Cement , Mahindra&Mahindra and Vedanta.

Index losers included HDFC bank, Infosys, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance, Adani Ports, Larsen and Hindalco.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market was in favour of gainers. On the NSE, 1,170 shares advanced and 640 declined, while 78 remained unchanged.

Total securities that hit their price bands were 266.

Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 33,654.43 crore, from Rs 33,484.75 crores as on last Friday.

A total of 15,606.27 lakh shares changed hands in 1,14,80,783 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms on the NSE stood at Rs 1,50,63,126.91 crore.
