A JetLite aircraft today veered off the taxiway after landing at the Jorhat airport and all passengers were safely deplaned, according to the airline.

The flight -- S2 4363 -- from Guwahati made a normal landing at Jorhat airport.

"After landing, one of the wheels crossed over soft soil while turning on the taxiway... All guests on board the Boeing 737-800 aircraft have been deplaned safely," Jet Airways said in a statement posted on its Twitter handle.

The number of passengers onboard could not be immediately ascertained.

JetLite is a subsidiary of Jet Airways.

"Safety is of paramount importance to us and every precaution is taken to ensure a high standard of operational safety," the statement said.

Responding to the statement, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said, "Dear @jetairways , the statement is not satisfactory.

Request @jayantsinha ji to please look into this matter".

Gogoi also said that he was about to take this flight from Jorhat and hoped that Jet Airways and the DGCA would initiate a proper inquiry.

In response, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha tweeted, "we will investigate this incident carefully.

Please be assured that every safety violation is thoroughly and fully analysed @jetairways".
