Various small and big industries would be set up on the vacant land of sugar mills to increase their income, Haryana Minister of State for Cooperation Manish Kumar Grover said today.

He also said the state government plans to spend Rs 1,100 crore on a range of measures in the first phase to make the sugar mills of the state become profitable.

"Various small and big industries would be set up on the vacant land of sugar mills to increase their income. The crushing capacity of sugar mills would also be increased," he said in an official release.

Grover said that so far, 75 per cent payment had been made to the farmers for the sugarcane given by them to sugar mills.

Payment of the remaining amount of Rs 395 crore would also be made soon.

He said that Rs 50 crore would be spent on the modernisation of Vita milk plants in the state.
