India today organised a tourism exchange seminar in China's Sanya city as part of its efforts to create awareness about the country's tourist destinations.

Indian Consulate in the Guangzhou organised 'India-China (Sanya) Tourism Exchange Seminar' at Sanya.

The seminar was one among a series of events organised as part of the continued efforts to create awareness about India's tourism destinations.

The seminar was held to coincide with a 3-day Global Yoga Exchange Conference 2017 being organised in Sanya where many prominent Indian Yoga Gurus are participating, a statement from the Consulate said.

The seminar was attended by senior officials from Sanya Municipal Government comprising of Foreign Affairs office, Tourism Development Commission, Department of Culture, representatives of media organisations, business houses, academia and around 150 travel agents from all over China, representatives from airlines.

Addressing the seminar Consulate General of India in Guangzhou, Y K Sailas Thangal gave a detailed information on India's tourist destinations, including architectural heritage, beaches, tropical islands, fauna and flora, hill stations, back water, temples and an array of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

He also informed them about India's strengths in luxury and hospitality sector, medical and wellness tourism as well as the spiritual tourism including that of Buddhistcircuits.

He urged the tour operators to prepare packages which enable Chinese travellers to experience India's rich and diverse cultural heritage.

China is currently world's top tourism source market. In 2016, around 135 million Chinese travelled overseas.
