The Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials today foiled a bid to smuggle the protected red sander logs through the container terminal here.

Two containers of red sanders, supposed to be smuggled to Hongkong, were seized after the officials conducted surprise raids at the port here, a DRI official said.

The assessment of the total value of the red sander logs were being done by the officials.

Investigation is being carried out on the racket involved in smuggling, the official said.

The red sanders seized here was brought from Mumbai.

As per Indian Trade Classification notified by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, export of red sanders in any form is prohibited.
