The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

It was further proposed to calculate financial assistance on per acre basis, and to do away with item-wise bifurcation of financial assistance, the Delhi Cabinet said in a statement.

"In addition, irrespective of the category of the colony, the Delhi Parks & Gardens Society will contribute 90 per cent of the admissible financial assistance at the rate of Rs 2 lakh per acre while the balance 10 per cent will have to be borne by the concerned Resident Welfare Associations and NGOs," it said.

Further, additional parks covering 5,000 acres would also be brought under the ambit of this scheme to provide additional financial assistance at enhanced rates, it was decided.

According to the statement, to overcome the problem of water supply, the grant of RWAs/NGOs shall additionally include one-time financial assistance towards the cost of sewage treatment plant at the rate of Rs 2 lakh per acre maximum, while the balance ,if any, will have to be borne by the concerned RWAs/NGOs.

"Such installed STP shall get sewage flow from nearest DJB sewer lines, treat the sewage and thereafter convert it into grey water (accepted BOD level) which shall be utilized for horticulture," it added. The main objective for establishing the Delhi Parks and Gardens Society was to ensure a common action programme for enhancing green cover of Delhi from 20 to 25 per cent and to beautify and professionally maintain the parks and gardens of Delhi with the help of RWAs, the statement said. In the last financial year 261 RWAs/NGOs has been given assistance for maintaining parks and gardens in their area, it said.
