Trump threatens 100% tariffs on countries imposing digital services tax on American companies

US President Donald J Trump has issued a strong warning to European countries considering the implementation of a Digital Services Tax on American technology companies, stating that any such move would be met with steep retaliatory trade measures.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said several European nations are “close to actually” implementing the tax, which targets revenue generated by large digital firms operating across their markets. He argued that if any country proceeds with the measure, the United States would respond immediately with a 100 per cent tariff on all goods imported from that nation.

The proposed tariff, according to the statement, would apply broadly to “any and all goods” shipped to the United States and would override existing trade agreements, whether already in force or pending implementation.

“This tariff will supersede trade deals made with the country, whether implemented, signed, or not,” the post noted, emphasising that the action would be automatic and immediate upon adoption of the digital tax.
