Former Japanese PM Abe Shinzo shot during a speech at Nara; showing no vital signs

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been shot in the city of Nara, as per NHK reports. He was making a speech for a Liberal Democratic Party candidate's election campaign. The incident took place around 11:30 am (Japan Timing). Abe is showing no vital signs.

According to Japanese public broadcaster NHK, the Former PM was bleeding and an NKH reporter present during the incident heard a sound "like a gun going off".

"Former Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo collapsed in the western city of Nara at around 11:30 a.m. Abe was making a speech on the street. An NHK reporter says Abe was bleeding. The reporter heard what sounded like a gun going off," the NHK WORLD News tweeted through its official Twitter handle.

The NHK reports, "Police say a man has been taken into custody. The site is near Yamatosaidaiji Station in Nara City."
