US-Iran War Update: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday that the American government will "not tolerate any effort to impose a tolling system in the Strait of Hormuz". Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump asserted that the Strait of Hormuz is going to "be open to everybody", describing the maritime region -- crucial to the global energy market -- as "international waters".
Oman, in particular, noted Bessent, should know that the US Treasury will aggressively target any actors involved -- directly or indirectly -- in facilitating tolls for the Strait of Hormuz and any willing partners will be penalised.
"All nations should reject outright any efforts by Iran to disrupt the free flow of commerce.  Tehran’s days of terrorizing the region and the world are over," Bessent wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

<h2>Tehran targets American base post-fresh American strikes on Iran</h2>
 
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had targeted a US air base in the region, after fresh US strikes on southern Iran. Kuwait said it had intercepted "hostile missile and drone threats", without elaborating. Kuwait hosts a US base. 
The Iranian launch followed the shooting down of Iranian drones over the Strait of Hormuz by the American forces, according to foreign media reports.
 
The developments came amid the eruption of fresh hostilities in a fragile ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran.
 
Both sides have blamed each other for not fully honouring the ceasefire.

The strait -- a crucial maritime region that connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea -- normally enables the supply of 20 per cent of the world's oil and gas.

Separately, Trump said the US was not satisfied yet on a deal with Iran, stating that no discussion was underway to ease sanctions on Tehran.
He also claimed that ​Iran wants to make a deal. The POTUS was speaking to reporters at a cabinet meeting at the White House.
