US President Donald Trump took to microblogging site Truth Social early on Monday to direct all federal agencies in the world's largest economy to prioritise American-made products in government procurement. Describing the current practices as a misuse of waivers and exemptions for purchasing foreign products, Trump claimed that American taxpayers' money has been sent overseas for decades, hurting US factories and supply chains.
He also noted that his administration is working to further tighten 'Made in America' laws and close loopholes that allow the purchase of foreign goods. The objective of the policy, he said, is to support American workers, factories and domestic supply chains.
"For decades, Washington politicians sent your Taxpayer Dollars overseas, and let Foreign Countries rip us off while our Workers, Factories, and Supply Chains were left behind. That betrayal is OVER. My Administration is strengthening MADE IN AMERICA Laws, ENDING Waiver Loopholes, and STOPPING the Federal Government from buying Foreign Products when Great American Products are available — And to the DC Bureaucrats: NO MORE handing out Waivers like candy! No more rubber-stamping exceptions for Foreign Products while American Workers get shafted," he wrote.
He also asserted that his government will not buy foreign products when quality American-made alternatives are available. His latest remarks echo his broader "American first" call that serves as the cornerstone of his administration's foreign and domestic policy framework, prioritising national interests, economic sovereignty and security above international partnerships. The Trump administration aims to tighten domestic sourcing requirements across federal procurement under a broader push to support US manufacturing and to reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.
Warning government officials, he said that waivers for foreign products will no longer be granted easily.
The 47th American president has already signed an executive order aimed at cracking down on fake 'Made in America' labels. That order, signed in March, empowers the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to prioritise enforcement against sellers and makers that falsely claim their products are American-made or make similar misleading origin assertions.
The order also requires central government agencies in the US to work with the FTC on consistent guidance and to periodically verify American‑origin claims in government procurement deals.
Any entities found to be in violation may be referred to the US Department of Justice, leading to legal and commercial risk for companies using inflated 'Made in America' branding.
"We are putting American Workers, American Factories, and American Supply Chains FIRST — Bigger, better, and stronger than ever before! I already signed EO 14392 to crack down on fake “MADE IN AMERICA” claims, and we are enforcing it HARD. No more games. No more fake labels. No more ripping off the American Taxpayer. AMERICA FIRST means BUY AMERICAN!" his Truth Social post added.

Through the order, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) -- an American agency that promotes consumer protection -- will take strict action against any companies falsely claiming their products are made in the US. Government procurement contracts will also undergo periodic checks to verify whether products labelled as American-made are actually manufactured in the US, according to Trump.
