The gold bonds will be available for subscription from June 19 to June 23. The next tranche, after the five-day window, will open in September 2023.
Gold bonds in the first series of 2023-24 will be available at Rs 5,926 per unit, which is equivalent to one gram of gold.
A discount of Rs 50 per unit is applicable for those investing in gold bonds through digital modes. Therefore, a price of Rs 5,876/unit will be applicable.
SGBs come with a maturity period of 8 years.
SGBs can be exited prematurely after the first 5 years.
Resident individuals, HUFs, trusts, universities and charitable institutions can invest in SGBs.
Investors can buy a minimum of one unit (equivalent to one gram of gold). Individuals and HUFs can buy up to 4,000 units, and trusts can purchase up to 20,000 units.
Eligible investors can buy SGBs through commercial banks such as the State Bank of India (SBI) and HDFC Bank, SHCIL, CCIL, designated post offices, and stock exchanges NSE and BSE.
Interest earned through SGBs is taxable though eligible for indexation benefits. Capital gains arising from redemption are exempted from the capital gains tax provided if SGBs are held till maturity.
