Top 10 wheat-producing states in India

Wheat is an important cereal crop in India. The northern region of India has traditionally dominated wheat cultivation across the country.

Wheat grains are ground into flour (atta) and consumed mostly in the form of leavened bread or chapati.

As per the year 2021-2022 (in thousand tonnes), here's a list of the top 10 wheat-producing states in India

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh comes out on top of the list and is the largest wheat-producing state in India. It produces 33949680 tonnes of wheat annually.

Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh is second on the list with an annual wheat production of 22418500 tonnes.

Punjab

With 14821940 tonnes of wheat produced annually, Punjab is third on the list.

Haryana

Haryana ranks fourth on the list with an annual wheat production of 10447210 tonnes.

Rajasthan

Rajasthan is in fifth spot with an annual wheat production of 9484080 tonnes.

Bihar

With 6223760 tonnes of wheat produced annually, Bihar comes sixth on the list.

Gujarat

Gujarat takes the seventh position, as it produces 3334240 tonnes of wheat annually.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra comes in at number eight position with an annual wheat production of 2473710 tonnes.

Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand ranks ninth on the list with an annual wheat production of 863600 tonnes.

West Bengal

On the 10th position is West Bengal, with an annual wheat production of 661520 tonnes.
