Budget 2024: What's cheaper and what's costlier: The Finance Minister announced a reduction of customs duty on mobile phones and mobile chargers to 15 per cent.
Budget 2024: What's cheaper and what's costlier: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget 2024, announced a major reduction in customs duty on cancer drugs and mobile phones. The decision will bring help down the prices of these items in the market.
The Finance Minister announced a reduction of customs duty on mobile phones and mobile chargers to 15 per cent. She also proposed to reduce customs duties on gold and silver to six per cent and on platinum to 6.4 per cent to enhance value addition in precious metal jewellery.
"To enhance domestic value addition in gold and precious metal jewellery in the country, I propose to reduce customs duties on gold and silver to 6 per cent and that on platinum to 6.4 per cent," Sitharaman said while presenting Union Budget 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha.
On the other hand, she said the government will raise customs duty on ammonium nitrate to 10 per cent and 25 per cent on non-biodegradable plastics.
