Delhi's new CM Rekha Gupta: Soon after BJP MLA Rekha Gupta took oath as the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi on Thursday (February 20), Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations, expressing confidence in her leadership.
“Congratulations to Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji on taking oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister. She has risen from the grassroots, being active in campus politics, state organisation, municipal administration and now MLA as well as Chief Minister. I am confident she will work for Delhi’s development with full vigour. My best wishes to her for a fruitful tenure," PM Modi wrote on X.

Gupta, 50, was sworn in at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday in the presence of senior BJP leaders, including PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and others. The newly appointed cabinet ministers—Kapil Mishra, Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, and others—were also sworn in as part of the new Delhi government.
Union ministers hail Gupta's leadership
Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Dharmendra Pradhan joined the chorus of congratulations. Shah wrote on X, “I extend my hearty congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Rekha Gupta ji on being elected the leader of the BJP Legislative Party," "I am confident the BJP government under your leadership will work day and night to fulfil the hopes and expectations with which the mothers and sisters of Delhi have blessed the BJP," Shah added.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Many congratulations and best wishes to Smt. @gupta_rekha ji on being elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party in Delhi. I firmly believe that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and with his efforts, Delhi will become the developed capital (‘Viksit Rajdhani’) of developed India (‘Viksit Bharat’)."
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman added, “Congratulations Rekha Gupta on being elected leader of the legislative party of Delhi BJP. I am confident that our government will serve the people of Delhi to meet with their aspirations.”
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also extended his wishes: “I have full faith that you will fulfil the hopes and aspirations of Delhi by working with utmost dedication for the welfare of the poor, women, youth, and deprived sections.”
CMs across states, AAP extend support
Chief ministers from neighbouring states, including Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, and Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma , were also among those who congrualated Rekha Gupta.
"There is full confidence that under the successful guidance of the respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and your able leadership, the national capital Delhi will touch new heights of overall development with the public welfare policies of the double engine BJP government, setting ideal standards of security, good order and good governance," UP CM Yogi Adityanath wrote on x.
Opposition leaders, including AAP supremo and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, joined in extending wishes. "Many congratulations to Rekha Gupta ji on becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi. I hope that she will fulfil all the promises made to the people of Delhi. We will support her in every work for the development and welfare of the people of Delhi," Kejriwal wrote on X.
AAP MLA Atishi also expressed her support, saying, "It is a matter of happiness that Delhi will be led by a woman. I hope that the promises made to the people of Delhi will be fulfilled. You will get the full support of Aam Aadmi Party for the development of Delhi."
From grassroots to the CM's office
Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party under the supervision of central observers—former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJP national secretary Om Prakash Dhankhar. She now joins the ranks of Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Sheila Dikshit (Congress), and Atishi (AAP) as Delhi’s fourth woman chief minister.
