Delhi's Next CM: Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Friday claimed that 'internal rifts' had emerged among Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs over portfolio allocation, alleging that the party was making excuses to delay its poll promises.
Addressing a press conference, Atishi stated that BJP leaders were engaged in a "tussle" over ministerial positions to "exploit" public funds. She further accused the party of having no intention of delivering on the commitments made in its election manifesto.
"We have learned from our sources that the BJP is planning to blame the AAP for its failure to fulfil promises. They will claim that the Delhi government has no money due to the previous AAP administration," Atishi said.
Highlighting AAP’s financial track record, she noted that Delhi’s budget had grown from Rs 31,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 77,000 crore in 2024-25 under its tenure. "In the last 10 years, Delhi's budget has grown 2.5 folds. The Arvind Kejriwal-led government even repaid the debt inherited from the previous Congress administration," the senior AAP leader added.
She further demanded BJP to implement all its promises without delay, particularly the pledge to provide Rs 2,500 per month to women. The BJP, which secured a landslide victory in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections, is yet to announce its chief minister and cabinet.
Delhi Election Results 2025
In Delhi Elections 2025, held earlier this month, the BJP secured a decisive victory, winning 48 out of 70 seats and returning to power in the national capital after over 26 years. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had governed Delhi for the past decade, suffered a major defeat, with several prominent leaders and ministers, including party chief Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendra Kumar Jain, Somnath Bharti, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Rakhi Birla, and Durgesh Pathak, losing their seats.
The Indian National Congress (INC) failed to win any seats for the third consecutive election. Of its 70 candidates, 67 lost their election deposits, though the party saw a slight increase in its overall vote share compared to the previous polls.
