Delhi Election Results 2025: Counting of votes for Delhi’s 70 assembly seats kicked off on Saturday morning at 19 centres across the city, with security arrangements in place to ensure a smooth process.
Chief Electoral Officer Alice Vaz said that around 5,000 officials—including counting supervisors, micro-observers, and support staff trained for the task—have been deployed.
As per election rules, the counting began with postal ballots, followed by votes cast through electronic voting machines (EVMs) after a 30-minute gap. Once both processes are underway, they continue simultaneously. To ensure transparency, VVPAT slips from five randomly selected polling stations in each constituency are also cross-checked against the EVM count.
Delhi saw a voter turnout of 60.54 per cent in the February 5 election, with over 1.55 crore registered voters.
A tight three-tier security system is in place, with 10,000 police personnel stationed across counting centres. Each centre also has two companies of paramilitary forces deployed to prevent any disruptions.
The big question now is whether AAP will retain its hold over Delhi or if the BJP will make a comeback after over two decades.
Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP has dominated the capital’s political scene since 2015 when it swept the assembly polls with 67 out of 70 seats. The party repeated its success in 2020, securing 62 seats. Another victory would reaffirm Kejriwal’s stronghold in Delhi and elevate his stature nationally.
For the BJP, a win would mean breaking AAP’s grip on the city and returning to power in Delhi for the first time since 1998. Meanwhile, the Congress, which ruled the capital for 15 years under Sheila Dikshit, is hoping to make a comeback after drawing a blank in the last two elections.
