Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services were hit by a widespread disruption on Saturday, April 12, 2025, with several users across the country reporting failed transactions.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates the UPI network, confirmed the disruption and attributed it to “intermittent technical issues.”
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), NPCI said, “NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines. We are working to resolve the issue and will keep you updated. We regret the inconvenience caused.”

This marks the second outage of UPI services in April. A similar disruption was reported on April 2, when users faced transaction delays on certain bank servers, following backend issues associated with the financial year-end procedures on April 1.
According to outage monitoring platform Downdetector, user complaints began surfacing around 11:50 a.m., peaking at 1:00 p.m. with over 2,300 reports. The majority—81%—cited issues with payments, while 17% faced problems with fund transfers and 2% with purchases.
Users took to social media to report difficulties in making even small payments. Some received error messages like, “Recipient’s bank network is down. You’re not able to make payment to your recipient’s bank. Please try paying to a different bank account.”
NPCI has assured that its technical teams are actively working to restore services.
