Southwest monsoon to arrive in Kerala earlier this year: IMD
IMD's MD earlier in May said that the ocean-atmospheric conditions favour early arrival as well as timely progress of monsoon in India.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), his year, the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Kerala earlier by 5 days on May 25 as against the usual date of June 1.

“This year, the southwest monsoon is likely to set over Kerala on May 27, with a model error of four days,” the IMD said.
Typically, June 1 marks the official onset of the country's rainy season, which spans 4 months. Post that the monsoon rains head northwards and cover the entire nation by mid-July.
Last week, the IMD forecasted the monsoon to arrive over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining areas around May 13; if it happens, it will be a week earlier than last week.
Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General, IMD, earlier in May said that this time around the ocean-atmospheric conditions favour early arrival as well as on-time progress of monsoon in India.
Over the last 5 years, the southwest monsoon arrived early in 2021, 2024 (May 31) and 2022 (May 27).
