The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has reached its final stage, with India set to face New Zealand on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match will decide the new T20 world champions, but there is also a huge financial reward at stake.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a total prize pool of $13.5 million (more than Rs 120 crore) for the tournament. The overall prize fund is around 20 per cent higher than the 2024 edition, reflecting the growing commercial value and global popularity of T20 cricket.

The tournament has been hosted across India and Sri Lanka, and strong broadcasting deals, sponsorship agreements and massive global viewership have helped push the prize money to record levels.

Record $13.5 million prize pool for T20 World Cup

The ICC has increased the prize money significantly for the 2026 tournament, setting a new benchmark for the event.

The $13.5 million prize pool is a clear jump from the $11.25 million fund in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The rise highlights how the shortest format of the game continues to grow in commercial strength and global appeal.

With T20 leagues and international tournaments attracting huge audiences, the format has become one of cricket’s biggest revenue generators.

Winners to receive $3 million, runners-up $1.6 million

The team that wins the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will receive $3 million (around Rs 27.48 crore), the biggest winner’s cheque in the tournament’s history.

The runners-up will earn $1.6 million (around Rs 14.65 crore).

Since India and New Zealand have reached the final, both teams are already assured of a substantial payout. However, the champions will take home the larger amount along with the prestige of lifting the T20 World Cup trophy.

Semi-finalists and Super 8 teams also rewarded

The ICC has ensured that teams performing well in the later stages of the tournament are also rewarded financially.

The two losing semi-finalists will receive $790,000 each (around Rs 7.24 crore).

Teams finishing between fifth and twelfth place in the Super 8 stage will earn $380,000 each (around Rs 3.48 crore).

This prize structure means strong performances across different stages of the tournament are recognised.

Prize money for teams eliminated in group stage

A total of 20 teams participated in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Even teams that were knocked out in the group stage will receive $250,000 each (around Rs 2.29 crore). This ensures that every participating team leaves the tournament with some financial reward.

The structure is also aimed at supporting cricket development across emerging cricket nations.

Prize money up 150% since 2007

The prize money in the T20 World Cup has increased sharply since the tournament began in 2007.

When India won the inaugural edition under MS Dhoni, the winners received $1.2 million. In comparison, the champions in 2026 will get $3 million, an increase of about 150 per cent over 19 years.

The rise reflects how T20 cricket has evolved into one of the most commercially successful formats of the game.

India will look to defend the title it won in 2024 and attempt to become the first team to win back-to-back T20 World Cup titles. New Zealand, meanwhile, will aim to win its first T20 World Cup trophy.
