Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) finally got the relief they needed as heavy rainfall on Tuesday brought temperatures down and significantly improved air quality. The intermittent showers and overcast skies provided a much-needed relief from the persisting heat, offering a welcome change for residents.

AQI Improves Across Delhi-NCR

The Air Quality Index of Delhi and NCR has also turned for the better, with most areas witnessing a remarkable improvement in air quality. People can now breathe a sigh of relief, inhaling cleaner and fresher air. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the good weather is set to continue in the next week, which is a welcome relief from the usual pollution troubles.

NCR and Delhi can witness a spell of inclement weather from August 3 to July 29 with fairly cloudy conditions and a high probability of thunderstorms and heavy showers at many places. As per the IMD prediction, the month will witness moderate rain on July 29 and 30, followed by thundershowers with rain on July 31 and August 1. The month will likely see light to moderate rain and thundershowers on August 2 and 3 as well.

Temperatures and air quality improve in Delhi

The temperatures are likely to be warm during this time, with highs between 30°C and 34°C and lows between 24°C and 27°C. The unsettled weather has also been beneficial in terms of air quality, resulting in the reduction of pollution by a considerable amount and giving residents much-needed relief from the common haze.

AQI improvement in Delhi

Based on information provided by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and State Pollution Control Boards, the air quality in Delhi has improved considerably, with some areas observing AQI levels falling in the 'satisfactory' category. On Tuesday, places such as Alipur, Ashok Vihar, ITO, Narela, IGI Airport, and Chandni Chowk observed considerable improvement in air quality, with AQI levels ranging from 69 to 99, i.e., 84, 88, 99, 88, 82, and 69, respectively.

While Delhi improves, some pockets still record moderate air quality

While Delhi's overall air quality has improved, there are pockets such as Jahangirpuri, Mundka, and Dwarka Sector-8 that still struggle with 'moderate' AQI levels at 156, 135, and 105, respectively. Neighbouring areas, however, have also felt the beneficial effect of the rain, with Noida's Sector-125 (AQI 97), Sector-62 (AQI 61), and Greater Noida's Knowledge Park-III (AQI 57) having relatively cleaner air.

Ghaziabad's air quality sees notable improvement after rainfall

Ghaziabad also recorded a significant improvement in air quality, with AQI values at Indirapuram (63), Sanjay Nagar (93), and Vasundhara (83) registering cleaner air. The recent bout of rain and cool winds has not only provided relief from the heat and humidity but also a much-welcome respite from the city's chronic air pollution issues.
