UIDAI explains why children must update biometrics in Aadhaar card

Aadhaar Biometrics Update: Are you a child or a teenager between the ages of 5 and 15? The government has mandated an important update to your Aadhaar Card, a 12-digit Unique Identification Number (UID). UIDAI, the statutory authority for UID, stated that "it is essential for children to update their biometrics" for examination registrations.

Biometric details such as fingerprints, iris scans, and facial images must be updated when children reach the ages of 5 and 15.

Taking to the social media platform X, the authority informed that it is crucial for children to update their biometric details, including fingerprints, iris scans, and facial images, in Aadhaar upon attaining the ages of 5 and 15 years.

According to UIDAI, this process is known as a Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) and requires two updates for individuals below the age of 15.

This major update in Aadhaar strengthens security and facilitates smooth registration for examinations, UIDAI stated.

How to update biometrics in Aadhaar Card?

To update your Aadhaar biometrics, follow this step-by-step guide:

• Visit the UIDAI website.
• Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP.
• Select "Update Aadhaar."
• Choose "Update Biometrics."
• Schedule an appointment at an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or the nearest Post Office and visit accordingly.

How much does it cost?

To update biometrics in children's Aadhar under 15 is free of cost. However, after the age of 15, a fee is required to make such changes.
