The Ministry of Civil Aviation will hold a crucial meeting today at 10:30 AM to review air safety protocols in the aftermath of the tragic Air India flight AI-171 crash near Ahmedabad. The session will be attended by senior officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and other key stakeholders.

Committee to be headed by Union Home Secretary
The investigation panel will be headed by the Union Home Secretary and includes top officials from both central and state governments. Notable members of the committee include:
- Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation
- Additional/Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs
- Representatives from Gujarat's Home Department and State Disaster Response Authority
- Ahmedabad Police Commissioner
- DG, Inspection and Security, Indian Air Force
- DG, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)
- DG, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)
- Special Director, Intelligence Bureau
- Director, Directorate of Forensic Science Services
- Aviation experts, legal advisors, and accident investigators may also be included as deemed necessary.
Scope of investigation
The committee will conduct a thorough probe, examining:
- Flight data and cockpit voice recorders
- Aircraft maintenance logs
- Air traffic control (ATC) recordings
- Witness testimonies
They will also inspect the crash site, interview key personnel including crew and ATC staff, and coordinate with international agencies, especially if foreign nationals or aircraft manufacturers are involved.
Report due in three months
The panel is expected to submit a comprehensive report within three months, along with recommendations for reviewing and strengthening Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prevent such incidents in the future.
