L2: Empuraan Day 1 advance booking crosses Rs 88.6 lakh in India, over Rs 12 crore overseas

With just six days left for its worldwide release, L2: Empuraan — actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s third directorial venture starring Mohanlal — is already making waves at the box office. The film’s advance booking figures hint at a historic opening, setting the stage for what could become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time.

According to early data, Empuraan has recorded an all-India gross of Rs 88.68 lakh through advance bookings for its opening day (without accounting for block seats). Around 50,054 tickets have been sold across 669 shows, with bookings still to open in several key regions.

The buzz is particularly strong in Kerala, where bookings began on Friday. BookMyShow, India’s leading ticketing platform, witnessed unprecedented demand. As per co-producer Aashirvad Cinemas, the film registered a record 96,140 tickets sold per hour, setting a new national benchmark for hourly ticket sales. With bookings in major metros outside Kerala yet to go live, the film is poised to cross the one-lakh ticket sales mark in no time.

Internationally, Empuraan is breaking new ground for Malayalam cinema. Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that overseas advance bookings have already grossed more than Rs 12 crore, marking the highest ever for a Malayalam release.

Industry experts believe Empuraan could open with a worldwide day-one gross in the range of Rs 40–50 crore, potentially doubling the current record held by Mohanlal’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (Rs 20 crore).

With excitement at a fever pitch and advance sales booming, all eyes are now on Empuraan’s theatrical debut. If the film delivers on audience expectations, it may well redefine the box office landscape for Malayalam cinema.
