71st National Film Awards: ‘12th Fail’ wins Best Feature, Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey share Best Actor – Here’s full list of winners

The 71st National Film Awards for 2023 celebrated cinematic brilliance on Tuesday, honouring talent across feature films, non-feature films, documentaries, books, and film criticism. This year’s awards saw 332 feature film entries, 115 non-feature films, 27 books, and 16 critics’ submissions competing for top honours.

12th fail steals the spotlight

In a landmark win, 12th Fail was named Best Feature Film, marking a significant moment for the creators behind the project. In the non-feature category, Flowering Man won Best Non-Feature Film, while God Vulture and Human were recognised as the Best Documentaries, each earning their first-ever National Film Award.

Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey share acting glory

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, for his role in Jawan, and Vikrant Massey, for 12th Fail, both clinched the Best Actor award. For Khan, this is a historic first National Film Award, adding another feather to his illustrious career.

Meanwhile, Rani Mukerji took home the Best Actress award for her compelling performance in Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway, marking her first National Film Award as well.

Veteran performers Vijayaraghavan and Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar were honoured with Best Supporting Actor, recognising their remarkable contributions to the year’s cinematic landscape.

The awards were formally announced by Shri Ashutosh Gowariker, Feature Film Jury Chairperson; Shri P. Sheshadri, Non-Feature Film Jury Chairperson; and Dr. Ajay Nagabhushan MN, Joint Secretary (Films). Ms. Mattu J. P. Singh, Director General of PIB, was also present to witness the celebrations.
