Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hoisted tricolour in the national capital on August 15. The event took place at his residence. He unfurled the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day. The nation is celebrating its 73rd Independence Day on August 15. A horizontal rectangular tricolour of saffron, white and green with the Ashoka Chakra at its centre, the Indian flag is described in the constitution as a symbol of hopes and aspirations of the people of India.
Raj Bhavan in Kolkata was illuminated in Tricolour to mark 73rd Independence Day. Tricolour was also beamed on India’s tallest building ‘The 42’. ‘The 42’ stands staggering 269 metre tall. India is celebrating 15th of August as Independence Day along with festival Rakshabandhan.

At least 670 students of a school came forward to show their enthusiasm for Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan in a unique way in Gujarat’s Surat. They made human chain by positioning themselves to form the Tricolour and 'rakhi'. India got Independence on August 15, 1947 and will celebrate 73rd Independence Day this year. The preparations for the celebrations are on full-swing in whole country. Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival and celebrates the relationship of brother-sister. ‘Raksha Bandhan’ is a Sanskrit word, which translates in English to "the bond of protection, obligation, or care”.
