NCLT verdict favours Tata Sons; Cyrus Mistry to appeal against order, terms ruling as 'disappointing'

Cyrus Mistry was ousted as Tata Sons Chairman in October 2016. Two months later, he and his family-run investment firm, Cyrus Investments, approached the NCLT as minority shareholders against the corporate monolith and others, including Ratan Tata, alleging oppression and mismanagement.

The Mumbai bench of the NCLT will deliver its verdict on July 4 on the bitter legal feud that Mistry has been fighting ever since dismissal as the chairman of the Tats Sons on October 24, 2016. The key allegation by Mistry camp is that his removal as chairman and subsequently as a director of the board Tata Sons was a result of oppression by the promoters who are in turn owned by Tata Trusts that owns over 68 per cent in Tata Sons.

Tata Sons on Thursday picked up shares worth Rs 1,088.88 crore of its two group companies, Indian Hotels Company (IHC) and Tata Motors, through open market transactions. According to the block deal data, Tata Sons acquired 6.64 per cent stake in IHC.
